“European Parliament Report Urges Protection of Armenia’s Cultural Heritage and Human Rights Amidst Ongoing Conflicts in Karabakh”

The European Parliament has released its annual report on the state of the EU’s foreign and security policy, as well as its common foreign and security policy towards Armenia. Originally scheduled for January 16, the report was postponed until February 28. According to the Armenian news agency NEWS.am, the report focuses on the ongoing conflicts in Karabakh, the ethnic cleansing carried out by Azerbaijan in Artsakh, Azerbaijan’s aggression towards the Republic of Armenia, and the ongoing negotiations between the EU and Armenia.

The report also calls for the protection of Armenia’s cultural, historical, and religious heritage, urgent protection of the civilian population in Artsakh, and implementation of measures to ensure the rights of the Armenian population in Lachin, Karabakh, and Azerbaijan’s international obligations. The European Parliament declares its support for peace, stability, and a peaceful resolution to the conflict, based on the principles of international law, democracy, and the fundamental rights of those affected. It urges the EU to provide humanitarian aid to Armenia, particularly in relation to the use of hybrid weaponry by Azerbaijan and violations of human rights.

The report emphasizes the European Union’s need to express support for Armenia, actively defend its interests, especially in energy security, and take measures to sanction Azerbaijan for international law violations. In conclusion, the European Parliament reiterates its commitment to democracy, human rights, and cooperation with the Armenian government in addressing the country’s challenges. Its representatives continue their daily work with elected members to fulfill political and security policy responsibilities based on the actions of the European Union.
