Armenian Prime Minister Slams Europe’s Advice on Suspension of Trade Privileges

“I don’t know what Europe’s advice will achieve,” said Armenian Prime Minister Arman Ghukasyan during a briefing with journalists. Ghukasyan expressed his disappointment with the European Council’s decision to suspend the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP+) trade privileges for Armenia due to human rights violations. He stated that if any country wants to withdraw from these agreements, they should discuss it with the relevant authorities.

He also commented on the idea that sanctions from the East and Europe could isolate Azerbaijan. Ghukasyan pointed out that just a few months ago, Azerbaijan was actively engaged in discussions with the Eastern Partnership (EaP) of the European Union. He believes that isolating Azerbaijan is not the best solution, even though it may sometimes offer advantages.

According to Ghukasyan, restrictions on transportation and trade have already been imposed on Armenia, but he believes that isolating Azerbaijan is not the solution. He stated that there are limitations to what any country can achieve alone, and that the international community is looking for ways to address these issues.
