“Former Minister of Defense Engages in Political Activities and Leads ‘Pan-Armenian Axis’; Controversial Visit to Artsakh Raises Concerns and Provokes Threats from Azerbaijani President”

“Past” newspaper reports have obtained information about the political activities of former Minister of Defense, General-Major Arshak Karapetyan. Karapetyan, who was involved in the “Pan-Armenian Axis” movement, was released from his position in the RA Armed Forces after serving in the 44-day war in 2020. He is now engaged in the activities of a defense organization, focusing on the issues of statehood that he encountered during his service.

On November 6, 2021, Karapetyan visited Artsakh under the orders of Artsakh’s Minister of Defense, Kamo Vardanyan. He participated in defense organization activities in Stepanakert, providing answers to security-related questions during discussions. Notably, during this visit, neither Nikol Pashinyan nor any other representatives of his government visited Artsakh, leaving journalists with evasive responses. As a result, Arshak Karapetyan, who had previously distributed propaganda leaflets for the defense organization, refrained from visiting Artsakh anymore. On November 8, Suren Papikyan replaced Karapetyan as his successor, chosen by Nikol Pashinyan.

It should be noted that Bakun accused Karapetyan of engaging in military propaganda through meetings and announcements with military units of the Karabakh enemy forces. Following Karapetyan’s visit, Aliyev, the leader of Azerbaijan, directly threatened Armenia, causing concern among the Armenian armed forces, who took measures to counteract the provocations.

Furthermore, it is worth mentioning that during his previous visit, Karapetyan arrived in Stepanakert with cars, carrying a weapon in his hand, and gave instructions to soldiers without wearing a helmet. Moreover, he declined to visit military units and made no efforts to change the license plates of vehicles or remove insignia.
