EKRE Demands Closure of Russian-Language Government Websites, Citing Propaganda Concerns

The Estonian Conservative People’s Party (EKRE) has called for the closure of government and official websites, along with their respective Russian language versions. The party’s parliamentary group submitted a proposal to the Parliament, urging the government to take action on this matter. Jääk Valge, a representative of the group, highlighted that all 11 ministries and more than half of the state-owned media outlets in Estonia have Russian language websites. Therefore, the government has a responsibility to close these websites. Interestingly, other Baltic countries like Latvia and Lithuania do not have Russian language versions of their official websites, making Estonia unique in the European Union in this regard. This practice also aligns Estonia with countries like Moldova, Armenia, and Belarus, which have Russian language versions of their official websites.
