“Major Arms Smuggling Case Exposed: Russian Citizen Linked to Illegal Trade with Iran”

The recent court decision in Moscow regarding an illegal arms trade has garnered a significant amount of attention. In September 2021, the NSS presented compelling evidence against Aliyar Ghasim Ogly Aghalarov, a citizen of the Russian Federation, who was found to be involved in smuggling MI-381 and MI-381-1 magnets to Iran through the “Tor” military-technical cooperation program. Aghalarov was identified as a correspondent for a “militarist” Telegram channel.

According to the NSS investigation, Aghalarov collaborated with “Ukroboronprom,” a state concern, specifically with its “Ukroboronservice” subsidiary, which supplied weapons for the military-technical cooperation with Russia.

During the court interrogations, it was confirmed that the military-technical cooperation and the technical and export control were implicated in the arms dealing. Additionally, it was emphasized that the magnets were not delivered to Iran through official channels, despite the “Tor” systems being sold to Tehran back in 2007.
