“Turkey Boosts Military Capabilities with Adoption of New Domestically-produced Systems: Akya, Atmaca, and Sapan”

Turkey’s defense ministry has announced the adoption of three domestically-produced military systems, namely “Akya,” “Atmaca,” and “Sapan,” as reported by Hyurriyet. This decision was formalized on January 20th, with the participation of Turkey’s defense minister Hulusi Akar, Ismail Demir, the head of defense procurement, and representatives from the Turkish armed forces and military industry.

Among these systems, Roketsan’s “Atmaca” missile is particularly notable for its capability to fulfill operational requirements in naval warfare. Designed to target surface ships, frigates, and corvettes, this missile has an impressive range of 220 kilometers and boasts low radioactivity levels.

Another significant addition, also developed by Roketsan, is the “Akya,” a high-speed torpedo with advanced features. This new generation torpedo is capable of effectively detecting and engaging both underwater and surface targets.

The third system, known as “Sapan,” encompasses a comprehensive anti-aircraft missile system. It comprises launchers, short-range surface-to-air missile systems, and long-range missiles. The Turkish agency highlights the significance and versatility of the “Sapan” system in enhancing air defense capabilities.
