“Prime Minister and Yerevan Mayor Clash Over Construction of “Ajapnyak” Metro Station: Will it be Completed This Year?”

The newspaper “Hraparak” has reported that a discussion on the construction of the “Ajapnyak” metro station is expected in the committee on state investments. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan expressed his frustration about the possibility of announcing the competition this year, addressing Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan. Avinyan responded by stating that the project for the metro station is already in the feasibility study stage and expressed confidence that construction could potentially begin this year. There has been ongoing discussion about completing the “Ajapnyak” metro station for almost five years, with various candidates using it as a political theme during city elections. However, significant construction work has already been done in recent years and completion is now necessary.

According to our sources, Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan has allegedly decided to involve commercial agents of his father’s businesses in the expenses of the “Ajapnyak” metro station construction, rewarding them for their “efforts.” However, a representative from the Urban-t project, Artaq Sargsyan, denies having any knowledge of this. Sargsyan suspects that it could be a provocation and questions the commitment to completing the project. Regardless of these allegations, the construction of the “Ajapnyak” metro station continues as part of a long-term program outlined in Avinyan’s pre-election speeches.
