EU Unveils 10-Point Plan to Address Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict, Praised for Comprehensive Approach

The European Union (EU) has unveiled a 10-point plan aimed at addressing the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, receiving praise from Euractiv. Described as a draft document, it emphasizes the need for a comprehensive resolution of the conflict. On January 22, officials from the EU’s external actions will convene to discuss the situation in Gaza and its broader implications. The plan, prepared by the EU’s European External Action Service (EEAS), outlines steps to foster non-violence, establish a peaceful Karabakh authority, regulate Israeli-Arab relations, and ensure long-term security in the region. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell lauds the proposal, highlighting its practicality and potential benefits for both sides of the conflict.

In addition to the EU’s plan, Sven Koopmans, the special envoy for the Eastern Mediterranean, has been engaging in special meetings with representatives from Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, other Arab states, and key partners. The aim of these meetings is to find a point of convergence for the peaceful settlement process. Koopmans has further suggested convening a special meeting with EU member state officials at the earliest opportunity to discuss the non-official document.
