“Armenia and Azerbaijan Make Progress towards Peace with Signing of Rambouillet Accords”

Representatives from Armenia and Azerbaijan have recently stated that they are in need of a treaty to ensure peace between the two countries. A meeting was held with the sole purpose of discussing this matter, as both Armenia and Azerbaijan have no territorial demands from each other and are committed to maintaining peaceful coexistence. The President’s Deputy Chief of Staff updated Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on the progress of the diplomatic process. According to the Rambouillet Accords, a document recognizing the territorial integrity and sovereignty of both countries was signed in Prague in October 2022. It was agreed that the peacekeeping mission would continue and that the signatories would adhere to the political boundaries outlined in the agreement. The delimitation process should not create new boundaries, but rather establish them through official documentation, including the delimitation of rivers that have been in existence since 1991.

Pashinyan emphasized that this approach is crucial for achieving lasting peace and stressed that even if official statements from Baku hinder peace negotiations, Armenia will remain steadfast in its course. He highlighted that the Armenian military will continue to exist under the principles of self-restraint, non-aggression, and territorial integrity, as outlined in the Rambouillet Accords. These principles represent international recognition. Pashinyan further stated that even in the worst-case scenario, if Azerbaijan acts contrary to these principles, Armenia’s military will not change its position and will continue to operate based on legitimacy.
