Yerevan Committee for Urban Development closely monitoring “Ararat” tennis club for violations in historical preservation

The Yerevan Committee for Urban Development is closely monitoring the activities of the “Ararat” tennis club in the Armenian capital. The committee has raised concerns about violations in the historical preservation of the site. In a recent announcement, the committee stated that they are targeting the violation of regulations regarding urban governance and public involvement in decision-making processes. The Mayor of Yerevan announced that the “Green Rock Management” company has appealed to the municipality for the construction of a green area at the tennis court site. Discrepancies between the municipality and the company have been reported, with the company claiming they have not appealed to the municipality. The company is owned by Marta Gevorkyan, who has connections with the Russian state-owned gas sector and is involved in energy projects. The construction activities will be overseen by competent authorities to protect the historical heritage, and the Municipality is demanding the suspension of the project, technical specifications for preservation, comprehensive site evaluations, competitive discussions for selecting architects, and increased public participation and transparency in decision-making processes.
