“Election Chaos Unleashes Protests and Arrests in Comorian Islands”

The recent parliamentary elections in the Comorian islands have sparked widespread protests and unrest. According to AFP, demonstrations erupted in response to the announcement of the presidential election results in the capital city of Moroni. The outcome of the election was heavily disputed, leading dissenting voices to take to the streets in protest. On January 14, the initial announcement was made, revealing that President Azali Assoumani’s party had secured victory with 62.97% of the votes. Unfortunately, the aftermath of the election saw the arrest of five opposition leaders on charges of inciting rebellion. Notably, the voter turnout was significantly low, with only 16.3% of eligible voters participating based on data from the electoral commission.
