Basqortostan Head Criticizes Authorities’ Handling of Resident Concerns, Addressing Activist Protests

The head of Basqortostan, Radik Habirov, admitted that the concerns of the residents have not been fully addressed by the country’s authorities. This statement came after activist Faiyl Alsinov’s protests sparked riots in Baymak. During his visit to the city, Habirov mentioned the Supreme Court of Bashkortostan’s ruling in 2020, which labeled the Bashkir organization as “extremist,” with Alsinov being one of its leaders.

Habirov acknowledged the frustrations of an active activist but countered that the situation is not as Alsinov presents it. He referred to a group of individuals who, driven by personal ambitions, aim to provoke a separation of Bashkortostan from Russia, thus inciting civil unrest. The head of Basqortostan mentioned that the perpetrator of the riots is currently being investigated.

Habirov also stated that while acknowledging and addressing mistakes made by the authorities, he has not publicly disclosed the full extent of the grievances and discontent of the people. However, he reassured that efforts are being made to rectify the situation and shed light on the true nature of these individuals. According to him, it is important not to consider such figures as symbols of hope or good activists, as they do not truly represent the interests of the state.
