The number of migrants entering Spain by sea in January has surged by 300% in comparison to the same period in 2023, as per a report by Reuters. The data provided by the Interior Ministry indicates that from January 1 to 15, a total of 3,658 migrants arrived in Spain via the maritime route, with the majority originating from North Africa. The Canary Islands accounted for approximately 95% of the sea arrivals, while the rest landed in the Balearic Islands or mainland Spain. In 2023, Spain experienced an unprecedented influx of migrants, with the Canary Islands alone receiving 39,910 arrivals.
