RA Investigative Committee Chairman Meets with US Counterterrorism Director to Enhance Fight Against Corruption and International Cooperation

The Chairman of the RA Investigative Committee recently held a meeting with Richard Neff, the Head of the Global Counterterrorism Directorate of the US Department of State. Also present at the meeting were Christen Fresonke, the Head of the Group dealing with the Global Counterterrorism Directorate, Lynne Tracy, the US Ambassador to Armenia, and Alex Hovhannisian, the Head of the INL program in Armenia. During the meeting, Sasun Khachatrian, the Chairman of the Committee, highlighted the Committee’s main activities and priority tasks, with a focus on combating corruption and improving effectiveness. Notably, there was a significant increase in the number of cases filed in the Court of Corruption and Economic Crimes in 2022 compared to the previous year, demonstrating the successful fight against corruption.

Richard Neff, who previously served as the US Deputy Chief of Mission in Atlanta, emphasized the importance of international cooperation in tackling corruption. Recognizing corruption as a global problem, Neff emphasized the need for collective efforts to combat it effectively.

Furthermore, the meeting discussed the implementation of the latest information technologies and technical equipment for investigations, enhancing the Committee’s capabilities and providing additional opportunities. The American side expressed their willingness to continue assisting the Committee in strengthening its capacity to combat corruption and supporting professional development through the INL program.
