“Former Armenian Prime Minister Blasts Political Rallies and Sparks Controversy with Fiery Statements”

Former Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, David Tonoyan, recently made a statement addressing the ongoing political rallies and demonstrations. During the session of the RA Ministry of Defense and Security Council on January 11, 2024, Andranik Kocharyan, the former president of the Council, discussed the “most important issue of the peace agreement,” which involved the establishment of a committee to study the aftermath of the 44-day war. Kocharyan referred to the “independent judgments” and specifically mentioned military leaders who had previously held high-ranking positions, which contributed to the committee’s objectives.

Andranik Kocharyan’s statements not only pertain to political rallies and protests but also contradict the provisions of Article 2 of the Republic of Armenia’s “National Assembly Regulations.” According to this article, the committee’s powers cannot be subject to initial investigations or court proceedings. Additionally, the committee cannot address issues that have already been accepted or raised through regular judicial processes.

The trial relating to the “provocative attacks” has not yet taken place, and the court has not granted permission to proceed with the proceedings. This situation is the outcome of numerous intermediary efforts between myself and other involved parties, as previously announced, within the scope of the criminal case of the “televised” political consultations.

Therefore, Andranik Kocharyan’s statements during the open session of the National Assembly Committee still reflect his views and intentions. While actively involved in the military operations, he assumed responsibility for the armed forces’ defense efforts. It is due to this argument that spokespersons criticized Azerbaijani provocations and law violations during the live broadcast on RA Public Television.

With this statement, I call upon the attention of the RA President regarding the violation of the top judge’s alertness to the aforementioned contempt of court violation.
