“Armenian Genocide Memory Erased: Official Visits Turn into Tourist Excursions for Ruling Elites”

“Joghovurd” daily newspaper brings attention to the activities of the ruling elites, which not only fail to benefit our country but also sometimes have negative consequences for the Republic of Armenia. The newspaper analyzes an article from the French newspaper Le Point, revealing that the memory of the Armenian Genocide was removed from the Holocaust museum in Turkey’s Rondon, located in East Africa. This raises concerns about the political actions carried out outside of external political and intellectual activities.

These officials, who travel to other countries as part of state-funded official visits, do not contribute to intellectual relations or work towards any meaningful outcomes. Instead, they often behave as mere tourists. For instance, in 2022, Hripsime Grigoryan, the head of the “Civil Contract” faction, participated in the 145th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Rwanda from July 16-21, along with a delegation of seven members from the “Civil Contract” party’s “Citizenship Treaty” group.

It is important to note that the activities of the ruling elites require significant financial resources. While it can be argued that these activities establish contacts with other countries in the public interest, the reality is that they do not serve our state in any significant way. Surprisingly, the disclosure of these activities in Rwanda did not come from the foreign affairs department of the Republic of Armenia.

Given the circumstances, it is evident that the presidency of Nikol Pashinyan has been unable to establish any meaningful connections with countries located in Africa. Talks continue, but it is crucial to question the true impact and value of such engagements, especially in a country with preserved past incidents and structures.
