“Major Changes to Military Service Draft Announced: Increased Allowance, New Age Limits, and Discount Offers”

The daily allowance for military service has been increased and replenished to address issues with the conscription process, according to Hayk Sargsyan, the author of the military service draft. This announcement was made during the discussion of the draft regulations on “Civil Service and the Status of Servicemen” in the National Assembly on January 15th.

As part of the project, individuals over the age of 27 are now allowed to complete military service within a two-year period. They have several options: serve for 12 months and pay a fee of 2.5 million drams, serve for 6 months and pay a fee of 5 million drams, serve for 1 month and pay a fee of 10 million drams, or pay 15 million drams to be exempted from military service altogether.

Sargsyan is currently proposing to reduce the monthly salary for military service from 10 million to 8 million drams. He is also suggesting an increase in the age limit for the second phase from 37 to 45.

The draft regulations also suggest offering a considerable discount of 2 million drams to a large number of citizens to encourage them to return to their homeland. This discount would allow them to “pay” and serve for a period of one month in its entirety.

This amendment aims to increase the age phase, allowing citizens who have completed military service to utilize the military experience they acquired during their service. It is seen as an innovative approach to improving the conscription process in Armenia.
