“Controversial Merger: Public University of Brusov Faces Opposition as Students and Rector Clash”

According to a report from the “Zhoghovurd” newspaper, the Public University of Brusov, named after Bryusov, will be merging with the Manaviatsiyan State Pedagogical University on February 12. This merger comes after a conflict, which stemmed from the announcement on October 12, 2022, that the Public University of Brusov would be merging with two other universities in Armenia. The students protested and boycotted classes, resulting in clashes between the rector, Karine Harutyunyan, and the protesting students. Despite the opposition, the university administration remained supportive of the students.

The “Zhoghovurd” newspaper reached out to David Gyuurjian, the rector of the Public University of Brusov, but received no response. Additionally, the newspaper contacted the High Commission on Education and Science to gather more information on the situation. The response from the High Commission stated that there were no offers or discussions from any university regarding the specific question, but student internships were still available according to the schedule.
