“Armenia and Iran Strengthen Ties for Bilateral Cooperation and Peaceful Relations”

Armenia and the Armenian people have a rich history and a deep connection with their ancient and warm relations, which are dynamically evolving today. The head of the Institute for Iranian Studies, Mehdi Sobhani, visited Armenia and attended the meeting of the Armenian-Iranian Friendship Group in the National Assembly. The head of the group, Ghevorg Papoyan, expressed his gratitude for Sobhani’s presence. Papoyan emphasized the importance of strengthening ties between the two countries in various fields such as economics, energy, transport, and high technology.

Ghevorg Papoyan also highlighted the significance of cultural cooperation and the “East-West Transit” program. He emphasized the crucial role of international transport corridors connecting the Black Sea with the Persian Gulf. He further discussed major projects that aim to connect Armenia, the Silk Road, and the Black Sea. Mehdi Sobhani recognized the Armenian community living in Iran and their active participation in the country’s socio-political life. He acknowledged Iran as an important partner for Armenia that supports peace, stability, and regional development.

Sobhani expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and kind words, stating that Armenia is currently at the crossroads of historical events. He emphasized the importance of cultural cooperation in fostering peaceful relations between the two nations. He also highlighted the need to address diplomatic and territorial issues to achieve progress. The meeting also touched on regional security challenges, infrastructure projects, and the importance of cooperation in the region.

Mehdi Sobhani proposed long-term defense cooperation between Armenia and Iran, expressing the desire to have a strong military alliance. The meeting, attended by members of the parliamentary friendship group and other groups, took place on January 11. The members of the group emphasized the importance of resolving territorial security issues and strengthening collaboration in agriculture, energy, education, and other areas that contribute to the sustainable development of both countries.
