Explosion rocks heart of Yerevan: Chaos and panic ensue near mayor’s residence

An explosion and fire occurred on the evening of January 6 in Kajaznuni Street, located in the capital city, as reported by News.am. The incident took place near the residence of Yerevan’s mayor and the administrative building of the Central District. According to information, the explosion involved 5-6 individuals who caused panic, chaos, and fear among the residents. One of the individuals present was repeatedly using a lighter in close proximity.

At approximately 23:30, the explosion finally took place, and thick smoke engulfed the area. As a safety measure, authorities immediately evacuated five individuals with ages ranging from 18 to 46 years old from the Central District. It was later determined that there was no conflict between them and that they were all under the influence of alcohol. Their highly agitated and irritable behavior in the city center raised concerns among locals.

As a response to the incident, the Central and Norq-Marash administrative districts were placed on high alert to ensure public safety. Authorities are currently taking measures to investigate the cause of the explosion and to gather all the necessary information to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.
