“Preserving the Past: Exhibition in Paris Sheds Light on Endangered Armenian Heritage in Mountainous Karabakh”

From December 14, 2023, to January 15, 2024, the prestigious Bastille Hall in Paris is hosting the exhibition titled “Mountainous Karabakh: Endangered Armenian Heritage.” Organized by the City Hall of Paris and “L’Œuvre d’Orient,” a Catholic organization, the aim of this event is to raise awareness about the cultural heritage of Mountainous Karabakh through the display of 30 open-air photographs. Hasmik Tolmajian, the Ambassador of Armenia to France, expressed her gratitude to both the Paris City Hall and “L’Œuvre d’Orient” for their continuous support of the Armenian community and their dedication to organizing this exhibition.

The ambassador emphasized the urgency of the situation in Mountainous Karabakh, where the Armenian historical and cultural heritage is at risk due to Azerbaijan’s efforts to erase it. The exhibition showcases the churches, monasteries, and memorials depicted in the photographs, serving as a reminder of the significance of promoting and preserving the international treasures found within Mountainous Karabakh’s historical and cultural heritage.

The opening ceremony of the exhibition was graced by the presence of Anne Hidalgo, the Mayor of Paris, and Jean-Michel Blanquer, the President of the National Assembly of France. Additionally, Jean-Yves Halbwachs, the President of “L’Œuvre d’Orient,” and Pascal Gollnisch, the organization’s director, were in attendance, alongside numerous representatives of the Armenian community in France.
