“Massive Corruption Exposed: Armenian Government and State Borders Worth Millions Are Under Investigation”

The government and state borders near the regional military base in Armenia have been evaluated to be worth 4 billion 882 million drams, approximately 12 million dollars, according to the head of the State Protection and Effective Services Department, Hovhannes Martirosyan. During a meeting with journalists on January 10, Martirosyan revealed that a total of 150 million drams were embezzled based on a detailed study of violations in state security and the activities of individuals referred to as “useful idiots.” He also shared that a total of 155 planned and 137 unplanned inspections had been conducted in various areas including corruption, water management, construction, and environmental protection, totaling 292 inspections. In 2023, 2483 violations of newly established norms were recorded, indicating an increase compared to the previous year, particularly in the field of urban planning.

Martirosyan disclosed that 1114 decisions regarding corruption cases had been made, resulting in the collection of approximately 135 million drams from the inspection of these violations. Additionally, 46 decisions regarding the suspension of corrupt officials’ activities had been issued. In relation to the period of embezzlement, Martirosyan mentioned the smuggling of around 632 tons of syringe needles from Sevan. Looking ahead, he announced that 180 planned inspections are scheduled to take place in 2024.
