Armenian Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Announces 20% Decrease in Families on Social Assistance by 2026, Emphasizes Targeted Support and Changing Mindsets.

The number of families receiving social assistance in Armenia is expected to decrease by 20% by 2026, according to the country’s Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Narek Mkrtychyan. During a meeting with journalists on January 10th, Minister Mkrtychyan emphasized the importance of changing people’s mindset and encouraging them to solve their social problems through work. He also mentioned that the support provided will become more targeted as the number of beneficiaries decreases.

Another initiative to improve the socio-economic situation in Armenia is a housing program that will continue to provide housing to families with children until 2024. Minister Mkrtychyan revealed that this program has already helped 3,617 individuals and a total of 9,069 citizens since 2020. In addition, around 280 applications for government assistance in housing improvement projects have been approved in rural areas, with a value of up to 16 million AMD.

One notable change mentioned by Minister Mkrtychyan is the extension of childcare assistance. Previously, this support would stop when a child turned two years old, but now it continues. Additionally, assistance is provided to unemployed mothers. All of these changes have been implemented with the aim of improving the socio-economic situation in Armenia.

The efforts made by Armenia’s Minister of Labor and Social Affairs reflect the government’s commitment to addressing social challenges and promoting self-sufficiency among its citizens. By reducing the number of families receiving social assistance and implementing targeted support programs, Armenia is striving to create a more inclusive and prosperous society. These initiatives not only provide immediate relief to those in need, but also empower individuals and families to overcome their social problems through work and economic independence.
