“Sergei Parajanov’s Centennial Anniversary Celebrated with Unveiling of Statue in Yerevan Cultural Event”

Celebrating the centennial anniversary of Sergei Parajanov, a cultural event took place today at the House of Cinema in Yerevan. The opening ceremony included the unveiling of a statue of Parajanov. Among the distinguished guests in attendance were Prime Minister Arayik Harutyunyan and Deputy Minister of Culture Tigran Galstyan.

In his speech, Arayik Harutyunyan highlighted the upcoming cultural events in the years 2023-2024. “Sergei Parajanov, Aram Khachaturian, and Charles Aznavour are the creative geniuses who represent the Armenian people worldwide and have gained international recognition. They are individuals whose names are synonymous with Armenia and its people,” he emphasized.

“Today, on Parajanov’s birthday, the government-approved events will continue throughout the year. We have several major events planned, along with more than 30 programs. Our celebration of Parajanov will extend not only to Armenia and Yerevan but also to our provinces and abroad, specifically France and Russia, where we have already organized programs,” he added.

Tigran Galstyan, the Deputy Minister of Culture, expressed his gratitude and praised the exhibition at the House of Cinema for showcasing the progress made in the field of cinema, serving as an inspiration. Galstyan also highlighted the success of Armenian films in international film festivals, noting that over 74% of the films have received awards at various international events. He further mentioned the achievement of the film “American” being shortlisted for the Oscars. “We still have a lot more to accomplish, and these celebrations provide an excellent opportunity to showcase our achievements,” he concluded.

During the event, the Prime Minister unveiled the statue of Sergei Parajanov and announced that the Global Star sculpture, located in the House of Cinema’s backyard, would represent the celestial sphere. He revealed that the government had received a proposal to name the sculpture “Nran Gyun” (Celestial Color).
