Yerevan Birth Statistics Show Positive Trend, though Gender Disparity Remains – Mayor Avinyan Calls for Change

In December, a total of 1954 children were born in Yerevan, consisting of 988 boys and 856 girls. Additionally, the birth statistics of children with disabilities revealed that 15,606 children were born during the same period, including 8,069 boys and 7,837 girls. These figures were announced yesterday, January 8, during a regular meeting of the Yerevan Municipality executive body.

Mayor Tigran Avinyan expressed his view that this distribution is within the expected range, even though the number of boys is slightly higher. He highlighted the positive trend in birth statistics but also acknowledged that there are still challenges to overcome. Avinyan emphasized the need to abandon gender-based approaches and begin the new year with a fresh mindset. He stressed that every child, irrespective of gender, deserves to be born and live, and any issues related to gender discrimination are incompatible with the progress of society.

Avinyan also proposed the implementation of programs and initiatives aimed at supporting these families. Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of improving education in this regard and called for the organization of necessary resources in politics and healthcare facilities. He encouraged everyone to contemplate this matter and put forth ideas for any potential programs.
