International Concern Over ICAO Meeting Cancellation in Tehran: Ukraine, Sweden, Great Britain, and Canada unite in response

Four countries, including Ukraine, Sweden, Great Britain, and Canada, are expressing concern over the cancellation of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) meeting in Tehran, Iran. The cancellation is due to security concerns following the downing of Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 and its impact on Ukrainian international flights. In a joint announcement, the foreign ministers of these four countries are advocating for the return of the ICAO diplomatic mission to Tehran to discuss international civil aviation obligations, particularly in regard to the implementation of Article 3bis of the Montreal Convention, also known as the Chicago Convention.

Today, Iran and these nations jointly announce the return of the ICAO diplomatic mission to Tehran. The purpose of this mission is to engage in discussions regarding international civil aviation obligations. Of particular interest is the implementation of Article 3bis of the Montreal Convention, which is commonly referred to as the Chicago Convention.

The joint announcement highlights that Tehran has been engaged in a process for the past four years seeking joint compensation for the crash of flight PS752. Despite the efforts made by all parties involved, the case has now been referred to the ICAO Council for further review and resolution.

This news demonstrates the concerns and interests of Ukraine, Sweden, Great Britain, and Canada in relation to the cancellation of the ICAO meeting in Tehran. These countries are actively advocating for the resumption of diplomatic discussions to address the obligations and regulations governing international civil aviation. By referring the crash of flight PS752 to the ICAO Council, Tehran acknowledges the need for a concerted effort and international cooperation to find a satisfactory resolution.
