Armen Ashotyan will remain in custody for an additional three months, as ruled by Judge Vahe Dolmazyan at the Criminal Court of Appeal. Ashotyan’s defense team had previously requested a change in his preventive measure of detention, presenting various influential references from both international and domestic sources. It is important to note that Ashotyan, the former chairman of the SCMU, was arrested on June 16, 2023. Furthermore, on June 15, he was relieved of his duties as the head of the Standing Committee on Countering Corruption at the Yerevan State Medical University complex named after Mkhitar Heratsi. This decision was made due to an ongoing investigation into significant corruption irregularities.
