“Holy Etchmiadzin Archival Director Withdraws from National Television in Protest Against Armenian Apostolic Church Pilgrimage Exclusion”

Dear viewers and esteemed individuals, I wanted to take the opportunity to share on my Facebook page about the recent decision made by Archbishop Asoghik A. Karapetyan, the head of the Holy Etchmiadzin Archival and Museum Complex. He has chosen to withdraw support from the Public Television of Armenia in order to protest against the non-broadcasting of the main annual pilgrimage event of the Armenian Apostolic Church.

In his statement, Archbishop Asoghik expressed his disappointment, saying, “You are also respected for your efforts in promoting the spiritual values of the Armenian people, which, unfortunately, were undermined by the decision of the Ministry of National Security of Armenia not to broadcast the main pilgrimage event of the Armenian Apostolic Church, the Vatican of the Armenian people.”

By taking this stand, the Archbishop is not only continuing to shine a light on the Christian life of Armenia, but also upholding the spiritual and national conscience that was invoked by the Declaration of Independence of Armenia, with the motto “One Nation, One Homeland, One Church” in mind. It is a testament to his kindness and strength that he remains resolute in the face of adversity, and for his unwavering dedication, he has been honored with the order of National Church.

As a result of his decision, Archbishop Asoghik has shared that the doors of the Matenadaran (Armenian Manuscript Repository) and the Archive will be closed to those who oppose the broadcast of the pilgrimage event. It is clear that he strongly values the significance of this event and the sacredness it holds for the Armenian people.
