“Burkina Faso Breaks Language Barriers: English and French Officially Recognized as Working Languages Alongside National Tongues”

Burkina Faso’s National Assembly has approved a constitutional amendment that recognizes English and French as official working languages, alongside the national languages, according to a report by AIB.

Under this amendment, French will continue to serve as the administrative language of the national languages, while English will be used as the working language within Burkina Faso’s government.

The document states that the recognition of national languages as official languages is a reflection of the people’s desires, and the administration is committed to facilitating communication to ensure the people’s development in their native languages.

Furthermore, this measure aims to promote the broader use of national languages in education, law, and administrative sectors.

In Burkina Faso, there are over 60 national languages spoken, with approximately 90% of the population being proficient in them. The most commonly spoken languages include Mooré, Dioula, Bissa, Dagari, Fulfulde, and Gurmanchéma.
