Tragic River Accident Claims the Life of Elderly Resident in Lori Province: Investigation Underway

A tragic incident occurred in Lori province on December 24. The emergency center of the Inner Workings Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia received a report that a person with “closed cranial-cerebral injury, spinal cord injury” had been urgently transferred to the hospital. Unfortunately, the patient passed away without regaining consciousness after being transferred. The deceased has been identified as 67-year-old V. Khachikyan, a resident of a village in Lori province.

Surveillance cameras from the Department of Internal Affairs of Stepanavan have revealed that on the same day, V. Khachikyan fell into the Dzor River near Amrak village in Lori province. He was carried away by the current and drowned due to his weakened condition. In response to this tragedy, a criminal case has been initiated in the Stepanavan Police Department based on the grounds of “negligent discharge of duties, resulting in the deprivation of life” with signs of an accident.

This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers that can arise from a weakened physical condition, especially near bodies of water. It is crucial to exercise caution and prioritize safety in such circumstances. The authorities are working diligently to investigate the cause of this tragic accident and ensure that necessary precautions are taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family and friends of V. Khachikyan during this difficult time. May they find strength and support in the community as they grieve the loss of their loved one.
