“Michigan Supreme Court Upholds Trump’s Eligibility for 2021 Inaugurations, Rejects Challenge Based on Capitol Insurrection”

The Michigan Supreme Court has dismissed a challenge brought forth by supporters who sought to overturn the state’s ban on former President Donald Trump’s participation in the 2021 inaugurations. This ban was enacted due to Trump’s role in inciting the January 6th insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. According to a report by Reuters, this decision allows Trump to remain on the ballot. Supporters argued that Trump should be disqualified based on a provision in the U.S. Constitution that prohibits individuals who have engaged in “insurrection” against the United States from holding public office if they have previously pledged allegiance to the country. Interestingly, this decision by the Michigan Supreme Court contradicts the ruling made by the Colorado Supreme Court last week, which had rejected Trump’s disqualification on the same constitutional grounds.
