“Major Smuggling Scandal Unearthed in Armenia: Millions Worth of Undeclared Goods Seized”

The employees of the Public Revenue Committee’s Internal Security Department, in collaboration with the Eastern Customs – Bagratashen Customs Point, have conducted an investigation into the smuggling of goods from member countries of the EAEU.

They have analyzed a number of companies’ involvement in the process of importation of products into the Republic of Armenia.

In particular, goods imported through the “Customs Transit” customs system introduced from the Russian Federation have been found to have discrepancies in the declaration of goods and other documents or information relevant to the examination of conformity. It has also been revealed that the values of certain goods declared in the invoice of goods have been declared multiple times lower than the market value.

In another case, during the inspection of goods imported from the Russian Federation with a customs declaration for the transit of a truck, it has been found that there are existing undeclared goods, including new tires, engine oil, electronic smoking devices, and others. The values of certain goods declared in the invoice have also been declared several times lower than the market value.

In all four cases, violations of customs regulations have been detected. Measures have been taken to investigate violations of Internal Security, Investigation, and Operational Services of Customs of the Republic of Armenia, in cooperation with the Eastern Customs – Bagratashen Customs Point. The total weight of the undeclared goods is 3402 kg, and for the goods not declared in their own names, the weight is 1806 kg. The examination of the values of the goods imported by the companies has shown that the tax obligations payable to the state budget have been increased several times.

The Internal Security Department of the Republic of Armenia’s SRC urges residents not to remain silent about the transportation of goods without declaration or the transportation of goods declared in other people’s names, in accordance with the national legislation of the Republic of Armenia.
