“European Parliament Elections: A Critical Turning Point for Voters and Far-Right Populism, Warns Prominent European Council Director”

Elections to the European Parliament in June hold a significant importance, comparable to the US presidential race, according to Josep Borrell, Director of the European Council on Foreign Relations. In an interview with The Guardian, Borrell expresses his concern that the future of European voters may be influenced by the outcomes of far-right populist movements. Borrell goes on to highlight the impact of fear on individuals, stating that fear has been scientifically proven to suppress a hormone associated with feelings of security.

In addition to the European Parliament elections, Borrell also addresses the situation in Ukraine and the gas sector. Regarding Ukraine, Borrell observes that there are no indications that Russian President Vladimir Putin is willing to relinquish control over Eastern Ukraine. Shifting his focus to the gas sector, Borrell emphasizes the significance of the CSTO (Collective Security Treaty Organization) as both a military force and a deterrent. He suggests that a stronger deterrent is required to counter the CSTO’s influence.
