“Over 20 Countries Join Forces with US in Expanding Coalition to Safeguard Persian Gulf Amid Rising Iranian Threats”

More than 20 countries are set to join the US-led coalition to protect security in the Persian Gulf from Iranian threats, according to the US Secretary of Defense. This announcement follows a series of recent attacks on Saudi oil facilities, resulting in a significant loss of life and damage to the country’s oil output. Yemeni rebels, who are backed by Iran, have also revealed their intention to wage war against Israel while launching attacks on vital international waterways such as the Strait of Hormuz.

The Strait of Hormuz plays a crucial role in connecting Asian and European countries through the Red Sea and the Suez Canal. Given its importance, approximately 12% of global trade is conducted on this maritime route. To address these recent developments and ensure the safety of commercial ships crossing these waters, the US has initiated the formation of a multinational coalition in the Red Sea, mirroring the concept of the Red Sea Fleet.

The coalition forces will receive tactical guidance for maritime stability operations, counterterrorism, and maritime security operations. The primary objective of this coalition is to suppress Iran’s destabilizing influence in the region. Reuters reports that there are at least eight countries participating in the coalition who have chosen not to publicize their involvement due to the political sensitivity surrounding this operation amidst escalating tensions in the area.
