“Police Crackdown on Illegal Street Races Leads to Discovery of Stolen Vehicles in Yerevan District”

On November 17, the employees of the Department of Road Safety of the Police of the Republic of Armenia, along with representatives from the Department of Road Safety and the Department of New Nork of Yerevan Municipality, discovered two cars in the protected territory of the New Nork district. The cars had license plates 10 MO 010 and 11 OT 001, belonging to the Mercedes and Toyota brands, respectively. These vehicles were found to have been used for “street races” among traffic violators. According to Pastinfo, on the same day, Arsen Mkrtchyan, also known as Arsen Yerevanski, was released and not detained in relation to a criminal proceedings involving traffic violation and street races. In an interview with Pastinfo, lawyer Hovsep Sarkisyan stated that Mkrtchyan’s participation in organizing the crackdown on street races was not documented by the authorities. However, he was criticized for his involvement in deciding the clashes. This criticism was deemed insufficient in court, leading to a complaint being filed. The court determined that Mkrtchyan’s involvement was not significant and acquitted him. The lawyer stated that there is no evidence of Mkrtchyan’s participation in street races or any other illegal actions.

It is important to note that on November 17, in the evening hours around 16:00, a collision occurred on Davit Bek street in Yerevan. The collision involved Arsen Yerevanski and Vitia Tbiliski, along with their accomplices. During the incident, clashes erupted and gunshots were heard. As a result, a military operation was conducted with a large number of officers, leading to the evacuation of the city center. There were casualties, and chemical and forensic examinations were carried out. The substances found in V.A.’s bag were identified as “metamfetamine,” while the pellets discovered in a Toyota car with license plates MY 2245 and YT 3014 were determined to be 9mm caliber bullets, military ammunition consisting of 16 pieces.
