More than 1800 students from the mountainous Karabakh region are currently pursuing their education in Armenian universities, according to an announcement made today, December 21, by Arayik Harutyunyan, the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia. Additionally, over 1100 students are enrolled in Armenian colleges and academies. The Minister stated that a decision will be made today regarding the tuition fees of students displaced from Artsakh, with a particular focus on about 935 students who had their fees covered by either their families or the government of the Republic of Artsakh. To comply with educational regulations, the government will reimburse approximately 264 million drams for the first semester’s tuition fees. Tigran Khachatryan, the Deputy Prime Minister, also stated that students who have already paid their fees will be instructed to return the funds to the universities, which will then return the payments to the students. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan further added that the reimbursed amount can be used to cover the tuition fees for the second semester, and Deputy Prime Minister Khachatryan confirmed that the government will indeed reimburse the fees for the second semester as well.
