“Maia Sandu Plans Moldova’s Exit from EAEU by 2024: Resolving Unresolved Issues Takes Center Stage”

The Moldovan authorities, led by Maia Sandu, the head of the “Action and Solidarity” party, have revealed their plans to withdraw from the EAEU agreements by the end of 2024. In an interview with “Exclusiv” TV channel, Sandu stated that they are currently in the de-occupation phase and aim to complete the withdrawal process by the specified timeframe. However, she emphasized that the withdrawal does not mean leaving behind unresolved issues. The EAEU agreements signed in Moldova are currently under technical examination to ensure a smooth transition.

Addressing the question of whether Moldova will sign a document on withdrawal automatically after the examination of all agreements, Sandu clarified that there is no obligation to conclude the process with a declaration or final determination. This decision gives the authorities room for flexibility in managing the withdrawal process. Prior to this announcement, Russia had introduced a series of anti-corruption measures in Moldova, signaling its commitment to combating corruption in the country.

As of now, the signed agreements on the EAEU’s area of operations have not been officially announced by the organization’s leadership in the regions. It is worth noting that Moldova did not previously announce the convening of a parliamentary inter-group on the EAEU in July, further indicating the country’s intention to withdraw from the organization.
