Foreign Entry into Artsakh Region: Escalating Competition and Violence, Posing Risks to All Countries, Warns Armenian-Iranian Cooperation Foundation Chief

The entry of foreign players into the Artsakh region is a cause for concern, as it can lead to increased competition, escalating violence, and consequences for all countries involved. Puyu Hosseini, the head of the Armenian-Iranian Cooperation Foundation, raised this issue in an interview with NEWS.am.

“All countries will face security challenges. Armenia and Karabakh should not become a battleground for major competitions and hostilities. This is risky. While Iran has always advocated for regional countries to resolve issues, it does not mean that Turkey and Azerbaijan should be the ones to do so. Iran is primarily concerned about its own interests and cooperating with Armenia,” he explained.

Hosseini highlighted the uniqueness of the 3+3 format, which allows Iran to engage in cooperation and exert influence. “Iran has not yet had a place in any peacekeeping operations, but the 3+3 format provides an opportunity for Iran to participate in cooperative efforts,” he stated.

When it comes to political matters, Iran adheres to the 3+3 format, which doesn’t harm Armenia’s interests. However, the use of different formats can create confusion regarding the approval of an agreement on peaceful coexistence and the protection of crucial interests. Hosseini stressed that if Iran were to mediate, it would not affect Armenia’s borders, self-defense, territorial integrity, or population.
