“Saint Petersburg Implements Curfew and Strict Measures Amid Surging COVID-19 and Flu Cases: Chief Sanitary Doctor Takes Decisive Action”

Starting from December 20, a curfew will be imposed in Saint Petersburg, Russia, during the annual holiday period, which includes New Year’s Eve, Christmas, and cultural events. The decision to implement this curfew was made by Natalya Baskhetova, the chief sanitary doctor of the city.

In addition, the curfew will also be enforced in medical and social institutions within the city. Entry to these facilities will be restricted, except for those accompanying seriously ill or disabled patients. The aim is to limit the number of people accessing medical institutions to minimize the spread of the virus within hospitals.

As per the decision, educational institutions will need to suspend their activities for a minimum of 7 days if at least 20% of students or group members are infected with coronavirus, flu, or ARVI. If there are 2 or more cases of acute respiratory infections in dormitories or boarding schools, the institution’s operation will be suspended for at least 10 days. If the number of acute respiratory infection cases reaches 10 or more, educational institutions will be completely shut down for 10 days.

The chief sanitary doctor of the city advises all organizations to adhere to temperature requirements, regularly ventilate and disinfect the air, and follow hygiene measures.

According to data from the administration of the Russian Federation, the incidence of ARVI and flu in Saint Petersburg has increased by 87.1% over the past four weeks. Additionally, the incidence of COVID-19 has risen by 62.4%, while cases of acute respiratory infections have seen a 35.3% increase.
