“Human Rights Defender’s Office Visits Nortus Village to Monitor Detained Individuals and Protect their Rights”

Representatives of the Ombudsman’s office in Armenia conducted a visit to Nortus village in Gegharkunik province as directed by the Human Rights Defender, Arman Tatoyan, in order to monitor the situation of detained individuals and ensure the protection of their rights. The purpose of the visit was to conduct interviews with the detainees, assess the grounds for their detention, and review the documents of the entities responsible for the care of the deceased bodies. This visit aims to gather information and evaluate the conditions in which the detainees are being held and their rights are being protected.

It is important to note that, according to the Ministry of Defense (MoD) of Armenia, the adversary launched an attack near Nortus, using grenades against the positions and employing gas to blind the servicemen. As a result of these actions aimed at violating the ceasefire, 26 servicemen were detained. The MoD has provided detailed explanations regarding these incidents.
