“Chinese President Xi Jinping to Hold Talks with US President Joe Biden on Taiwan and Mainland China: Peaceful Resolutions Eyed”

In November, during the G20 summit in San Francisco, Chinese President Xi Jinping announced his intention to hold talks with U.S. President Joe Biden regarding Taiwan and the Chinese mainland, as reported by NBC News. While the exact timeframe for implementing this program was not specified, Jinping emphasized that peaceful means would be employed rather than force.

At the G20 summit, held in November, the two leaders held discussions that were described by American officials as open and non-confrontational. Jinping also mentioned that the United States is currently considering the selection process for the leadership of Taiwan’s administration, scheduled to take place in January 2024.

Since 2016, members of the Democratic Progressive Party, with Tsai Ing-wen serving as its representative, have advocated for this position. Ing-wen, who was re-elected for a second and final term in 2020, adopted the “One China” principle upon assuming office, which resulted in a gradual shift in the country’s stance towards mainland China and subsequently strained relations between Beijing and Taipei.
