Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law that aims to decrease distractions in schools by banning the use of personal mobile phones during class time, according to official sources. The law outlines that phones can only be used in cases of danger to students or staff members or in situations of illness. To ensure a beneficial use of technology, educational gadgets will be utilized solely for educational purposes, as stated by Olga Kazarova, the head of the education committee of St. Petersburg. This law, which does not limit phone use during breaks, also mandates the inclusion of a technological subject in primary and secondary schools starting from September 1, 2024.
