“Artsakh Announces Presidential Elections Amidst Fragile Peacekeeping Mission: Challenges and Hopes Arise”

The joint Armenian-Russian-Georgian peacekeeping mission in Nagorno-Karabakh has announced the results of the presidential elections in Artsakh. According to the mission, the upcoming elections will be held in February and are seen as a step towards stability. The current President Ilham Aliyev, who has been in power for the past 20 years and has focused on economic restoration and development, is a major contender in the election. The purpose of the elections is to create new precincts in the occupied territories of Mountainous Karabakh, with Azerbaijan aiming to find a resolution to the conflict through implemented programs and duties. However, the endeavor faces risks due to civil unrest in the region’s history, leading to the potential involvement of non-governmental representatives in the elections. The resumption of elections should be accompanied by the return and guarantee of rights for those displaced from Mountainous Karabakh, as well as international humanitarian assistance and security guarantees. The statement also encourages the people of Azerbaijan to fight for their independence and human rights.
