Yerevan Municipality Council’s Ambitious Water Supply Project Well Underway: Mayor Emphasizes Water Security and Sustainable Management

Expansion, improvement, and modernization activities in the water supply system are currently being undertaken in three phases to ensure water security and sustainable management. This program, led by the mayor of Yerevan, Armen Begoyan, was emphasized during the regular session of the Yerevan Municipality Council on December 18th. The water treatment facility, with a capacity of approximately 3000 cubic meters, has already been completed and is currently undergoing testing. Additionally, the construction of a water reservoir is in progress, and the foundations for 2000 meters of pipelines have been laid. As part of these efforts, irrigation and cleaning works are also being carried out on approximately 15 hectares of farmland.

Another important aspect of these ongoing projects is the focus on promoting green spaces within the city. As part of the irrigation works, a significant number of trees and shrubs have been planted on various streets and squares, totaling approximately 200 valuable trees and 6000 shrubs. This serves not only to beautify the city but also to contribute to a healthier environment for the residents.

Furthermore, the implementation of these initiatives has had a positive impact on the groundwater levels within the capital. Over the course of the year, the groundwater level has increased by 95 percent, thanks to both artificial and natural precipitation. This increase signifies significant progress in the efforts to address water scarcity and improve water resources in Yerevan.

In addition to the environmental benefits, these projects also prioritize social assistance. A commendable total of 11,391 saplings have been planted, which will be provided to vulnerable families as a form of support. This initiative not only helps provide greenery but also offers economic and emotional aid to those most in need.
