“Yerevan City Council Addresses Non-Functioning Hydropower Plants, Urges Expedited Renovation”

In today’s meeting of the Yerevan City Council, held on December 18, the issue of non-functioning hydropower plants or their renovation was discussed. According to the Municipality’s Construction and Urban Development Administration, there are currently 28 hydropower plants installed in Yerevan, with another 101 still undergoing construction or renovation works. Additionally, 49 renovation works have been completed, but water disinfection is required to connect the hydropower plants to the water supply. Furthermore, there have been inaccuracies regarding the addresses of 13 hydropower plant installations, and corrective works have been carried out to rectify this, showcasing the responsibility of the Construction and Urban Development Administration and the implementing organization.

Tigran Avinyan expressed his concern about the progress of the works, stating that at the current pace, they might not be completed on time. He urged the mayor to expedite the process, specifically requesting it to be finished by February. Avinyan directly addressed the mayor’s representative, Aram Pambukhchyan, emphasizing the ongoing nature of the project and the need for timely completion. Avinyan made it clear that if the deadline is not met by February, he would consider terminating the contract.
