The northern region of Korea carried out another major ballistic missile test on Thursday, with officials in Seoul and Tokyo reporting that it has the potential to reach the United States, according to AFP. This test comes shortly after a recent test of a shorter-range missile. The North Korean military announced that the missile was launched on Thursday morning, traveled 1,000 kilometers, and landed in the Sea of Japan, also known as the East Sea.

The Japanese Defense Ministry has identified the missile as an intermediate-range ballistic missile with a potential range of 15,000 kilometers, which would enable it to reach the United States. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida referred to these two tests as “a threat to peace and stability,” echoing the condemnation by the United States. A spokesperson for the US Department of Defense criticized the tests, stating that they are in violation of numerous resolutions of the UN Security Council.
