“Multiple Injuries as Vehicles Collide on Icy Roads in Kotayk Province: Accidents Avoided on Salinated Sevan Highway”

On December 17th, a major car accident took place in the Kotayk province as a result of icy roads. The incident occurred at 10:00 am on the Yerevan-Sevan highway, specifically in the 27 km section, involving vehicles from “Chanian” and “Gurman” bakeries, as well as a BMW and a Toyota Camry. According to Gagik Shamshyan, a photographer present at the scene, three individuals were injured in the collision. The injured received immediate assistance from city residents, the ambulance of the RA Ministry of Internal Affairs, and medical staff from the Central Hospital of the RA Ministry of Emergency Situations in Kotayk. They were subsequently transported to the Mikayelyan Institute of Surgery for further treatment.

The emergency department’s medical staff provided initial medical aid to one of the injured individuals, who was then referred to the hospital for additional care. Shamshyan, the photographer, stated that the cause of the accident was the slippery road due to icy snow. He further added that if the road had been salted, the accident could have been prevented. It is worth mentioning that the Sevan highway had not witnessed any accidents in recent days, thanks to the efforts of Sevan residents and the maintenance staff of the “Chanian” bakery, who had been diligently working there.

This unfortunate car accident serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by icy road conditions. Despite the efforts to prevent accidents, sometimes unforeseen circumstances can lead to detrimental situations. It is imperative for drivers to exercise caution when traveling in such weather conditions and for maintenance personnel to regularly monitor and treat the roads to minimize the risk of accidents.

The local authorities should take this incident as an opportunity to review and further enhance their strategies for maintaining safe road conditions during winter. This means ensuring that roads are regularly salted, especially during periods of icy weather, to prevent accidents and injuries. Moreover, awareness campaigns can be conducted to educate drivers about safe driving practices during hazardous weather conditions.

In conclusion, this car accident in the Kotayk province serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety, particularly during winter when icy conditions can lead to accidents. It is crucial for everyone, including drivers, maintenance personnel, and local authorities, to work together to mitigate risks and ensure the safety of all road users.
