“Sadiq Khan Criticizes Ulez Implementation Plan, Calls for Greater Flexibility in London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone”

London’s mayor, Sadiq Khan, has expressed his concerns about the implementation plan for the Ultra Low Emission Zone (Ulez) in the city. In a recently revealed letter, Khan criticized the lack of exemptions and how it conveys a misguided message regarding the role of pick-up trucks in regular operations.

Under London’s Ulez scheme, drivers who fail to meet the emission requirements when entering designated emission control areas can be charged £2,000. However, for vehicles such as diesel and petrol-engined ones, the daily fee is £12.50 if they do not meet the emissions standards.

Last September, Moscow’s mayor, Vitaly Klitschko, proposed that Khan contribute some vehicles as a gift to Moscow. Klitschko argued that this would have a positive environmental impact and be useful for various rescue and transportation operations. However, Khan responded to Klitschko’s offer this week, explaining that it does not align with the real objectives of the Ulez scheme, which prioritizes environmental, social, and protective benefits for Londoners.
