“Baben Ararktsyan: The Unsung Hero of Armenian Politics and Constitution Building”

Baben Ararktsyan, a prominent figure in our new era and one of the main pillars of the government, has been recognized for his significant role in the national struggle. In an interview with NEWS.am, Aram Manukyan, a member of the ARF, highlighted Ararktsyan’s invaluable contribution to the creation of our Constitution. Throughout his political career, Ararktsyan has dedicated himself to building a historical legacy.

During his time as leader of the Republican Party, Ararktsyan played a crucial role in implementing numerous laws and reforms, working with the 1200 Commandments and accepting the KKH. His achievements were truly remarkable, considering the short period of time in which they were accomplished. Ararktsyan also served as the head of the Republican Party and chaired the Supreme Council of the Artsakh Republic, before becoming the deputy of the Constitutional Council.

Ararktsyan was a member of the “Karabakh” Committee, a group that fought for the interests of the Armenian people with relentless dedication. Levon Ter-Petrosyan and Vano Sirdghayan were among his counterparts who shared his vision. The “Karabakh” Committee had a nationalist approach, rejecting previous revolutionary and populist movements. Their focus was on bringing peace, unity, and reconciliation to the Armenian people. Ararktsyan’s alignment with this approach reflected his commitment to the cause.

When asked about Ararktsyan’s last years of life, Aram Manukyan described them as difficult. Ararktsyan’s poor condition and the unfortunate events surrounding him were sources of sadness. It is evident that he disapproved of Nikol Pashinyan’s rise to power, facing various problems and disappointment. He has been forgotten since 2018 and has not received the recognition he deserves.

Aram Manukyan mentioned that Ararktsyan faced a critical phase of illness lasting 1.5-2 months, yet remained steadfast. Ararktsyan made it clear that he rejected the idea of his death being managed, disapproving of his participation in the political council or having his funeral organized at Opera. This stubborn nature characterized him, leaving a surprising impact on our history. Samson Ghazaryan and Vano Sirdghayan, who also did not attend, will undoubtedly be remembered through textbooks, movies, and the work of obscure historians.

Baben Ararktsyan was not only a powerful political figure but also a statesman, founding father, and a good person. His memory will be cherished, and his contributions will be remembered, concluded Aram Manukyan.
