“Pyunik Football Club Faces Uncertain Future as President Threatens Withdrawal from Armenian Championship”

The president of the “Pyunik” football club, Artur Soghomonyan, announced yesterday that unless there are changes, Arman Melikbekyan will continue to serve as the club’s head, leading Soghomonyan to step away from football due to the lack of progress. If Melikbekyan is elected, “Pyunik” will not participate in future competitions of the Armenian Football Championship, resulting in Soghomonyan’s withdrawal from the sport.

It is important to note that “Pyunik” is renowned as the top football club in Armenia, having achieved significant success throughout its history. The club has claimed the highest league title 15 times, won the Armenian Cup on 8 occasions, and secured the Armenian Super Cup 9 times. Moreover, “Pyunik” is regarded as a major contributor to sporting development in Armenia.

Addressing the consequences of Melikbekyan’s decision, “Zhoghovurd” newspaper raises concerns about the approximately 1700 children who will be left without a football club. It is speculated that Melikbekyan aims to not only punish his nephew but also exert pressure on the football association. Additionally, this move will contribute to the loss of approximately 1700 jobs, as many individuals are currently employed by the football club and its related activities.

The article also delves into the differing views of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and his team, who have announced various initiatives to protect the rights of players and preserve their opportunities. However, their intentions regarding this specific issue remain unclear. Has anyone considered the potential backlash from these 1700 children, whom Melikbekyan has seemingly discarded without a sporting outlet?

In an attempt to obtain further information, “Zhoghovurd” newspaper reached out to the press secretary of the Prime Minister, Narek Baghdasaryan. The publication sought clarity on the steps Nikol Pashinyan plans to take in addressing this issue and whether the management is aiding the affected goalkeeper, who has been left in a precarious situation. Baghdasaryan responded by stating that the matter does not fall within the government’s jurisdiction, thereby preventing the spokesperson from commenting on the subject.
